NEW LONDON, Conn. (WFSB) – Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London is asking for donations of pediatric comfort and activity items to help young patients.
The items help lower anxiety for children who are patients and can help distract them during difficult times, according to the hospital.
Through the end of February, people can drop off new and unused items in the hospital cafeteria.
A similar donation drive is also being held at Westerly Hospital in Rhode Island this month.
In a press release, a representative from the hospital in New London expressed the importance of the supplies.
“Our staff want to provide the best possible care to children, while making sure they feel safe and secure,” said Craig Mittleman, MD, chair of emergency medicine at L+M and Westerly hospitals. “These items, including toys, books, and small toys, provide crucial distraction during procedures, foster a child-friendly environment and help normalize the intimidating hospital setting.”
No further details were released.
