Huge emergency service presence and police cordon erected on scene in Centenary Square after safety fears

A major Birmingham landmark was evacuated today, Wednesday, February 4, as emergency services rushed to the scene amid safety fears.
Police, paramedics and firefighters were all on scene as the Library of Birmingham was cordoned off during the incident on Wednesday, Feb 4.
Specialist ambulance crews who deal with ‘high-risk’ or dangerous incidents were in Centenary Square from around 11am. The incident centred around “concerns for the welfare of a man.”

No-one was injured. The man was marked as safe and with officers at around 3pm.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police earlier said: “We are currently at Centenary Square following concerns for the welfare of a man.
“A cordon remains in place but nearby roads are not affected.”
In an update, the force added: “The man is now safely with officers.”
The Library of Birmingham was taped off for several hours
No roads were closed and drivers were not affected by the incident.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called shortly after 11am to a concern for a patient’s welfare in Broad Street, Birmingham.
“One ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Hazardous Area Response Team are currently in attendance at the scene.”
