Three teenagers have been arrested after a gym was “ransacked” and bikes were stolen during a series of burglaries. Police were called at around 1.30am on Thursday, February 5, following reports a room and several lockers inside PureGym on Edge Lane, Liverpool had been broken into and searched.
A short time later, officers received a second report of a burglary at a nearby address on Alford Street, where three boys were seen taking two pedal bikes from a communal bike shed.
Officers searching the area stopped a 16-year-old boy from Wigan, who was arrested on suspicion of burglary after police found a mobile phone, a phone charger and two pairs of wireless earphones in his pockets.
Two further arrests were made after officers spotted two boys, aged 16 and 15, from the Wirral, on Lomond Road. Both were arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Police said the 15-year-old was later also arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated and hate-related public order offence after allegedly making abusive threats towards officers.
All three boys were taken to a police station in Merseyside where they remain in custody.
Detective Inspector Paula Jones said: “Our officers worked together to swiftly arrest three teenage boys who caused significant damage to two properties in Liverpool.
“These were serious offences that can cause people in our community to feel unsafe where they live.
“I hope these three arrests reassures these residents that we will continue to pursue any type of anti-social behaviour on our streets and bring offenders to justice to prevent further burglaries.
“Although we have made three arrests our investigation is still ongoing so if you have any information on this incident please let us know so we can continue to take action and keep our communities safe.”
