Birmingham City academy graduate Tate Campbell has joined Robbie Savage’s Forest Green Rovers.

Campbell left Blues 18 months ago having climbed through the ranks to make four first team appearances.

The 23-year-old dropped into part-time football with Hereford, where he was managed by Blues hero Paul Caddis, before returning to the full-time game with Buxton in the summer.

Campbell has impressed enough in non-league to earn a move to National League side Forest Green.

The move to Forest Green, who are currently fourth in the fifth tier, has been a long time in the making.

Savage – who spent three years at Blues during the club’s Premier League days – initially tried to sign Campbell for his former club Macclesfield and has now got his man.

Campbell said: “Robbie Savage was in contact with me months ago over moving to Macclesfield and since then he’s been watching me since.

“It’s good to feel wanted. You see players going to clubs where they are just a signing on the board, but the relationship with Robbie has been good so it’s good to make it happen.”
