Moseley councillors had approached West Midlands Police and the Director for Community Safety after flags were put up around the village

Dozens of flags which were put up around a Birmingham suburb by a group are to be removed, it has been reported.
Raise the Colours visited Moseley Village on Wednesday evening (Feb 4 )where they attached the St George and Union Jack to lampposts and got into multiple confrontations with the public.
Councillor Izzy Knowles tried to inform them that they are committing an offence under S132 Highways Act 1980 but they continued flagging.

Today, Moseley councillors said on Facebook that the council would be removing the flags in ‘urgent’ action, supported by West Midlands Police.
Coun Knowles said: “Philip and I have had confirmation from both the council and the police today that they are supporting each other to facilitate the removal of the flags put up without permission on lamp posts in Moseley Village on Wednesday evening.

“We do not yet have a timeline for this, but it is being treated as urgent.
“We would like to reassure the many residents who have contacted us about this that our’s and others representations are being taken very seriously.
“I will keep people updated and please feel free to contact us with any concerns.”
Coun Knowles posted on Wednesday (Feb 4): “I have written to the Cabinet member, the Director for Community Safety and the Police Commander asking for the flags to be taken down as soon as possible and for some firm action to be taken, either a summons to court or an injunction.
“This group are not being patriotic, they are upsetting and frightening many people, causing division amongst communities, wasting police time and adding unnecessary cost to a council that is already struggling with managing its finances.
“We already have a flag for Birmingham. It’s the Birmingham Community flag celebrating our rich heritage as a city of a thousand trades, built on migration and welcoming to all.”
Meanwhile, a separate event calling the community to unite and remove the flags is to take place on Saturday from 11am to 2pm.
