John Doole died following a tragic road accident in Kilkeel on Tuesday.
His funeral was held on Friday at Mourne Presbyterian Church in the town.
Rev William Bingham said: “John made his mark in life in a good and positive way — a happy, content, thoughtful, gentle and kind wee boy.”
He began the service by saying: “We remember especially John’s parents, Wesley and Theresa, and remembering also Stephen and Lisa.
“His sisters and brothers: Penny, James, Joanne, Katy, Holy, Ellie, Brooklyn, Jamie, Roxie, Zoe and Sam. His nana, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins and all the family circle.
“Wesley and Theresa have asked me to particularly thank the emergency services, Daisy Hill Hospital and the police who attended the scene of the accident and for their support throughout Tuesday.”
Rev Bingham said John was adored by his family.

“He was a special son, their little king, whose life was overflowing with kindness, love and generosity. He brought much joy and life into the home and brightened up the day with his laughter, chat and fun.
“He was a perfect wee gentleman, never rude or boisterous, but thankful and content with whatever he had.”
John went to Kilkeel Primary School and was set to move to Kilkeel High School in September.
“I can honestly say his short life has left a lasting impact among teachers and pupils alike,” Rev Bingham added.
The clergyman also read out some tributes from John’s teachers and classmates.
“‘Everyone who met John fell in love with him’, ‘You could have taken him home with you’, ‘He was always smiling even when he was being told to get on with his work’.
“Zeta said, ‘John Doole has been in our class since P1 and as a class we will miss him. He was very nice and caring’.
“Harry said, ‘John was always excited to tell me what was on his mind such as ideas and theories and just having a great time talking to each other’.”
The funeral of John Doole took place today.
Rev Bingham said John has left a lasting impact on all of his classmates.
“His school friends will always have wonderful memories of John throughout their lives. He has left behind precious memories and a wonderful legacy.”
He finished the ceremony by speaking directly to John’s family.
“It is his family who of course will miss him most.
“They have every right to be proud of their wee man John has been a gift to them from God – as God takes him back to Himself we are comforted with the hope that when we love Jesus we never say goodbye for the last time but know we will meet again.”
Among those at the funeral was South Down MLA Diane Forsythe.
In an online tribute, she said: “United in enormous grief today we joined to give thanks for the precious life of John and the joy he brought to all who knew and loved him
“As Rev Bingham said, there are no words but our presence and prayers are all we can give. My continued thoughts and prayers are with Wesley, Theresa and the entire family circle in the difficult times ahead.
“John’s classmates did so well today and will always carry their precious memories with him.
“A beautiful wee angel, a ray of light in his too short time on earth, now an angel in heaven watching over those he loves.”
