An easyJet flight from Edinburgh has been forced to divert after an emergency was declared mid-air. The EZY52GV flight to Paris Charles de Gaulle landed in Manchester just over an hour after taking off after an issue was raised.
It left the capital at around 7.15am on Saturday before the squawk 7700 code was issued by the captain, signalling a general emergency. According to data from online tracker Flightradar24, the plane circled south of Manchester before heading north to land at the city’s airport at 8.23am.
The airline later confirmed the diversion was due to a technical issue. Passengers were transferred to a replacement plane before continuing their journey.
A statement issued by easyJet said: “Flight EZY3211 from Edinburgh to Paris CDG today diverted to Manchester due to a technical issue. The pilot performed a routine landing in Manchester and all passengers were transferred to a replacement aircraft and crew and continued onto their final destination, Edinburgh.
“The safety of our customers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority and easyJet operates its fleet of aircraft in strict compliance with all manufacturers’ guidelines.”
