A major road leading towards Birmingham Airport was forced to close for hours after flooding. On Saturday evening people travelling to the airport were warned of disruption and advised to check their route.
It happened following heavy and persistent rain across the region. Specialist equipment was deployed to the A4545 and diversions were put in place while workers tried to bring the situation under control.
As of 4am on Sunday morning, around eight hours after the initial warning was shared, the road was still closed.

At just shy of 9pm on Saturday, National Highways spokesman said on X: “The A4545 is closed in both directions between M42 (near Solihull ) and A45 (Birmingham Airport) due to flooding. Specialist equipment is en route to clear the flood water.”
An update issued later stated: “The A4545 remains closed in both directions between M42 (near Solihull) and A45 (Birmingham Airport) due to flooding. Specialist contractors are working at the scene to clear the flood water from the carriageway.”
