Police have taped off an area on Stratford Road

A machete attack has left two schoolboys injured after a disorder broke out on Stratford Road.

The 14-year-old and 15-year-old boys were taken to hospital after a ‘targeted’ incident outside Boss Mart 3 in Shirley.

It happened at around 9pm on Saturday, February 7, police have said.

A third teenage boy was injured with a punch and did not require hospital treatment.

Officers have since arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of wounding with intent and he remains in police custody.

A police cordon and blue tent remain at the scene this afternoon (Sunday, February 8).

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said that extra officers will be in the area today following the unrest.

They said: “We’ve arrested a teenage boy after three others were attacked in Shirley.

“We were called to the Stratford Road in Shirley at around 9pm yesterday.

“Two boys, aged 15 and 14, were taken to hospital with injuries which we believe were caused by a machete.

“Their injuries are not life-threatening but both remain in hospital for treatment.

“Another teenage boy, aged 15, was also assaulted after being punched but did not go to hospital.

“We’ve arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of wounding with intent.

“He remains in custody as we continue with our enquiries.”

The spokesperson appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

They added: “We believe the attack was targeted and we’ll have extra officers in the area today to provide reassurance to the community.

“We’re investigating and would urge people with witnesses or people with information such as dashcam or mobile phone footage to contact us on 101 quoting crime number 20/140175/26.
