The M62 is closed in Greater Manchester tonight (Sunday, February 8) tonight for ’emergency works’.

The eastbound carriageway is shut to traffic eastbound between Junction 11 and Junction 12, National Highways confirmed shortly after 9pm.

The closure, which is expected to be in place until 6.30am on Monday, comes after flooding on the carriageway this weekend.

A National Highways spokesperson said: “The M62 in Great Manchester is closed eastbound between Junction 11 (Birchwood) and Junction 12 (M60/M602) for emergency works.

“The M62 in Great Manchester is closed eastbound between Junction 11 (Birchwood) and Junction 12 (M60/M602) for emergency works to a drainage system.

“The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight until 06:30 9th February 2026.”

Inrix, the traffic data company, said: “All traffic being temporarily held due to emergency repairs and earlier flooding on M62 Eastbound from J11 A574 Birchwood Way (Birchwood) to J12 M60 / M602 (Eccles Interchange).”

Diversion route:

The following traffic diversion route is in place. National Highways is asking motorists to follow the Hollow Triangle Symbols on road signs in the area:

Exit the M62 eastbound at J11. At M62 J11/A574 roundabout, take the fourth exit onto the M62 westbound and follow for 4.5km.

Leave the M62 westbound at J10 and follow the M6 southbound for 3.6 km. At M6 J21A/A57 roundabouts, take the first exit from roundabout onto A57 eastbound and follow for 13.2km.

At A57/M60 J11 roundabout, take the first exit onto M60 northbound and follow for 1.6km. At M60 J12/M602 J1 interchange, rejoin the M62 eastbound.
