Dispatcher Amanda Nichols is receiving recognition from the New London Police Department for helping a couple deliver a baby over the phone.
On the morning of Feb. 7, Nichols received a call from a man whose wife had gone into labor at 38.5 weeks, and they didn’t think they’d make it to the hospital in time.
New London police said Nichols coached the couple over the phone during the delivery process.
Her clear instructions and guidance helped the couple deliver a healthy baby girl before EMS arrived, police said.
“Dispatcher Nichols’ training, experience, and composure under pressure made all the difference for this New London family during one of the most critical moments of their lives,” police said in the post.
