The owners of a beloved Greater Manchester dining spot have announced their plans to sell up citing an ‘unfeasible’ economic climate. Örme in Urmston announced the news via social media this evening, with followers calling the update ‘heartbreaking’.

Örme, whose name derives from the origins of the Trafford town on holdings bestowed to landowner Orme Fitz Seward in the 12th century, opened in May 2023 and quickly gained the attention of the Michelin Guide who promptly added its to their Inspectors’ round-up of their favourite new restaurants.

It was opened by chefs Jack Fields and Tom Wilson – friends who grew up in Urmston – and Jack’s partner Rachel Roberts. Visitors will notice it’s distinct Nordic touch, but it is very much rooted in showcasing the very best British produce.

The post shared on Instagram read: “It is with great sadness that we announce our intention to sell the restaurant.

“It is well published that our industry is facing significant economic pressures. Addressing the real impact on trade, we find an increasing disparity between perceived value and the true cost of operations, rendering long-term sustainability unfeasible.

“This has impacted our decision, however as we approach a break in our lease, we have been presented with an opportunity to thoughtfully consider our circumstances and reflect on what lies ahead. We need to make the right choice for our growing families, right now that means stability.
