Emergency services are on the scene following a fire at an abandoned building in Eccles tonight (February 14). The blaze is understood to have taken hold a former nursing home.
New Lane, in Eccles, has been closed off following the incident. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area, and motorists should make alternative travel arrangements where possible.
Crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident at around 7.15pm. They remain in attendance as they bring the fire under control.

The Manchester Evening News understands the building is the former Avondale Nursing Home. Three fire engines from Salford, Agecroft and Eccles attended the scene.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 7.15pm on Saturday 14 February, fire crews were called to reports of a fire at a derelict building on New Lane, Eccles.
“Three fire engines from Salford, Agecroft and Eccles stations were quickly mobilised to the incident. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels, lighting equipment and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
“Crews remain at the scene damping down the remaining hot spots and making the area safe.”
