The streets of Leeds were turned yellow, white and blue on bank holiday Monday.

The city of Leeds came out in full force to welcome the Championship winners as they were paraded from Elland Road to City Square. The Peacocks were already confirmed as promoted ahead of the weekend – but their last gasp win over Plymouth crowned them as champions.

Daniel Farke’s side registered 100 points across the season, matching Burnley. However, it was Leeds that clinched the title thanks to their superior goal difference.

Leeds fans looked for any vantage point to welcome their heroes, some climbed on bus stops while others clambered into trees.

The majority had gathered in City Square, where the bus parade would finish. Images shown flares and flags being waved as fans eagerly anticipated the arrival of their heroes.

“It is beautiful. I heard a lot of people would be here, but this many is beautiful,” Joel Piroe said when seeing the crowds. “This is one of the biggest parties I’ve ever had.”

While Illan Meslier added: “This is literally unbelievable. I am speechless. To see so many people is amazing.

“Wow! I spend six years here so it is a huge pleasure to play for them and I love everyone. When I see this even more, I enjoy this a lot.”

Manor Soloman, speaking from the bus, was also blown away: “To see them celebrating like this, I don’t know how many thousand, you can’t count them. It is incredible.

“I was expecting to see a lot of people, but not this many, it is great.

“What we have all done this season is amazing. Now we have to celebrate it. I’ve made some memories at Leeds United and they will always be in my heart. These fans deserve to be so happy!”
