A Birmingham man has been charged with rape of a child under 16.

Police arrested Mohamed Ayash from an address in Leasow Drive, Edgbaston.

The 29-year-old was arrested from the property in the residential street on Saturday, May 3.

He was later charged with rape of a child under 16.

Ayash, of Leasow Drive, was remanded in custody.

He was due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court today, May 5.

Residents reported online that police remained in Leasow Drive on Sunday morning.

West Midlands Police issued a statement on the charge this afternoon.

A force spokesperson told BirminghamLive: “We arrested a man in connection with the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl.

“A 29-year-old man was arrested from an address in Leasow Drive, Birmingham, on Saturday, May 3.
