US PRESIDENT Donald Trump’s interest in golf is well-noted.

And the leader of the free world has made no secret of his desire for his course to host golf’s oldest tournament.

Trump purchased the Turnberry estate in Ayrshire in 2014, and has been clear that he wants the course to host the Open for the first time since 2009.

He said in 2023: “Everybody wants to see the Open Championship here.”

But the golf-mad President will have to wait to see his dream realised, with the Open host venues already decided up to 2027.

However, the 78-year-old’s other Scottish course looks set to see action.

That’s according to the Sunday Times, who say that Trump’s Aberdeenshire venue will soon be announced as the host of DP World Tour event for the first time in August.

We told last month that Trump was finalising the agreement, and it now seems an announcement will be made in the next fortnight.

Opened in 2012, Trump International Scotland has posted 11 consecutive financial losses, revealing a £1.4million deficit for 2023 in October of last year.

So the £2.25million deal to bring the World Tour to Aberdeenshire will be a welcome financial boost.

However, the event isn’t expected to draw a star-studded cast because of a scheduling clash with both the FedEx St Jude Championship and LIV Golf’s event in Chicago.

That means American star Bryson DeChambeau, who celebrated his maiden US Open win in 2020 at a Trump resort, won’t be in attendance.

A strong attendance is expected though, with only five other events on the DP World Tour, including the Open, being held in the UK this season, and the course frequently ranked in the top 30 in the country.

Trump has been at the forefront of a golfing feud between the PGA Tour and the LIV Golf Circuit.

He met golfing icons Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in his attempts to broker peace and secure the sport’s future.
