Rangers supporting Rock booed loudly and also cheered in raucous Glasgow cauldron
Josh Rock was given a hot reception at The Hydro as he flashed a 3-1 sign ahead of his Premier League clash with Luke Humphries in Glasgow.
The Rangers supporting darts star knew he was going to get it tight from some of the crowd at the Hydro due to his allegiances.
Rock was already getting a hounding from some of the crowd inside the arena before he flashed up the scoreline of the Ibrox team’s win in the last meeting with Celtic ahead of his game at the beginning of his walk on, which is Welcome to the Party by DJ Krissy, a tune which was adopted by Rangers fans during Steven Gerrard’ s spell as boss.
The Northern Irishman smiled as the fans booed strongly him during the warm-up darts and others in the audience cheered.
Rock’s spectacular 140 finish in the opening leg brought an explosion of delight and suddenly some of the crowd was chanting his name, mixed with Danny Rohl, the Rangers manager, to the same tune.
However, it didn’t end well for the World No.9 as he was subsequently outgunned by Cool Hand 6-2 to remain pointless at the foot of the table after three weeks of his debut campaign in the competition.
The day before the game, Rock explained that he was aware the crowd could give him some stick and talked about the Light Blues.
Rock gave praise to Rohl as he assessed the title race and said: “Well, we all knew the problems from the start with Russell Martin. But you have to give these things a try. So then Danny Rohl has done magic since he’s come in.
“It’s probably the most interesting league there has been in the last couple of years. Obviously Celtic won it the last few fears in a row, but it’s good to see Hearts up there battling for it as well.
“Motherwell are not far behind, have had a fantastic season, so it’s going to be very, very, very nip and tuck between Rangers, Hearts and Celtic.”
Rock was in Glasgow a fortnight ago doing an Exhibition for the Rangers Charity Foundation and caught up with ex-Ibrox hero Kris Boyd.
He added: “I’ve got Boydy’s number. He met me in the hotel with a coffee and just a wee chit-chat.”
Rock will try to fit in a return for more games after the Hydro, but added: “I’ll try my best, but I do have a wife and kids at home whenever I’m on this journey with the Premier League, so it might be a lot more difficult than I would like it to be. Family comes first before having to go and watch the mighty Rangers.”
