Granby Street Market in Toxteth

A famous Liverpool market has announced its return following a six month break. Granby Street Market, found in Toxteth, welcomes hundreds of people on the first Saturday of every month, except January, that is until it was announced it would be taking a six month break rather than the usual month.

The organisers made the announcement on Facebook at the beginning of September to say the market would remain closed until March 2026 in order to “focus and improve” policies and procedures as well as recruit more volunteers.

The Facebook post added: “We haven’t made this decision lightly, and we are sorry if this inconveniences traders and shoppers. In order for the market to continue to thrive, we need to take a break.”

Granby Street Market has been a firm part of the community in L8 for well over a decade after launching as a summer community market.

The market moved to Granby Street in 2016 as part of the area’s regeneration.

Now, the market has confirmed its reopening strategy as people eagerly await its return.

In an update on social media, the market said: “We have missed you. We will be back on March 7th but coming back gradually, so that we can train up our new volunteers.

“What does this mean? This means that we will have a small market in March – with about 30 stallholders.

“We have already contacted some of our traders about this – those who live in our community and who have been trading with us in the last year.

“The stalls will be on the Princes Avenue end, between Ducie St and Jermyn St. On April 4th, we will increase this to between 40-50 recent traders, from a slightly wider group in and around L8. On May 2nd, we’ll be back with a bang.

“Thanks for all your patience.”

Indianna Mcmillan-Parker commented: “Fantastic news! Everyone has missed Granby Street Market so much x”

John Hesp said: “This is great news hopefully better than ever, missed all my Granby friends.”

Catherine McCombs wrote: “Best news ever.”
