He tried to kiss her which she refused. He then sexually assaulted and attempted to rape the girl.
When the girl managed to stand up Williams then punched and hit her face.
He then strangled her, causing her to fall to the ground and threw her bag into bushes nearby as she managed to get away.
She was able to scream and shout for help and ran to a friend’s house and called West Midlands Police.
Officers were able to identify Williams through a detailed description and his Snapchat username he gave to the girl.
He was then arrested and charged with attempted rape, sexual assault, intentional strangulation, assault and shop theft.
Williams of Hampton Road, Erdington admitted all offences at an earlier hearing and was sentenced to nine years and six months at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday (17 Feb).
DC Kevin Shaw, Child Abuse Investigation Team, said: “This was a horrific incident that will have a significant and profound impact on the girl for many years to come.
“I want to commend her for calling for help and reporting the incident to the police.
“Williams is clearly a risk to women and girls and we’re pleased to see he is now behind bars.”
West Midlands Police added: “It is important to note that survivors of sexual assault are protected by law and have life-long anonymity.
“We take every report of rape and sexual offences extremely seriously.
“Our officers are specially trained to thoroughly investigate reports and make sure that those reporting them are properly supported.”
