This is the moment Joe Lycett’s United States of Birmingham TV show features a hilarious chat about accents in an upcoming episode which airs tomorrow night.

Comic Joe and US bus driver Randy chat on camera about the Brummie accent and slang from the Black Country.

Randy is heard offering his signature wisdom: “You need to slow down and enunciate.”

The clip, shared exclusively with BirminghamLive and posted above, shows the pair driving towards Birmingham, Iowa – marking the halfway point of Joe’s journey.

The proud Brummie wants people to “celebrate what joins us” as he visits scores of other places named Birmingham in America.

There are 18 other Birminghams – 17 in the US and one in Canada. And dad-of-one Joe has been to a number of them to gather a ‘Treaty of Friendship’ between the Birmingham’s.

In this latest clip, Joe says: “This is very specific to Birmingham. I say ‘tuth’ rather than tooth.

“My friend from Liverpool found it very funny. She pointed and she went: ‘What’s that?’

“And I said: ‘Oh it’s my tuth’ and she went: ‘You sound ridiculous (in a scouse accent)!’

“I think shots could be fired in all directions there actually.”

Randy then says: “So you would say: ‘Hey mum – all eight of my tuth are loose.’

Joe said: “No I would say ‘teeth’.” Randy says: “Oh you would?”

Joe responds: “But accurate in Birmingham, most people have eight teeth and they’re all loose, so that’s fair.

“We could do some Black Country ones…

Randy replies: “Black Country – what in the world is that?”

Joe says: “The Black Country is a bit posh, a bit fancy. So I went to the pub and ordered a glass of white wine and the woman behind the bar went: ‘We da av it.’ What do you think that means?”

Randy says: “She sneezed?!” After laughter erupts, Joe says: “It just means, ‘we don’t have wine’.”

“You’re kidding me,” says Randy. “You need to slow down and enunciate.”

Joe said: “I would love for you to go to the Black Country and say ‘you just need to slow down and enunciate’.”

Randy then says: “I’d be lost as a golf ball in high weeds if I went to the Black Country.” Joe adds: “You certainly would.”

The next episode of Joe Lycett’s United States of Birmingham airs on Sky Max at 9pm tomorrow, Tuesday, May 6.
