Ecco the Dolphin first launched on the SEGA Genesis in 1992, delivering a genuinely unique action-adventure experience, featuring time travel and commentary on environmental issues. The sequel, The Tides of Time, smoothed out the original’s difficulty and continued the storyline.
Further instalments were made, like the kid-friendly Ecco Jr. And Sony even helped publish the PS2 port of the Dreamcast game Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future, which is the most recent entry in the series thus far.
We’ve always enjoyed Ecco the Dolphin conceptually, but the gameplay hasn’t aged particularly well, especially though a modern lens. Hopefully these remasters, as well as the new game, can help clean up any issues and breathe new life into these bona fide classics.
