Emil Riis and Scott Twine helped Bristol City come from behind to beat Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Yuki Ōhashi scored his second goal in two games to give his side the lead, but the lead only lasted for ten minutes as Riis levelled in fine fashion in the 17th minute.

Twine added the crucial second goal before half-time, snatching all three points after two games without a win.

Gerhard Struber made five changes to the side that suffered a narrow defeat to Swansea as Riis, Twine, Cam Pring,  Mark Sykes and Sam Morsy all came in from the start.

The Robins’ attention swiftly turns to Watford at home on Friday, February 27th, at 8pm.

Despite a promising and direct start to the game, Rovers opened the scoring after six minutes when Ryoya Morishita sailed past Rob Atkinson, finding Ohashi, who rifled the ball into the back of the City goal.

Unphased, the Robins’ brilliant reaction would see Tomi Horvat sliding the ball to Jason Knight, powering into the area before forcing a brilliant goal-saving stop one-on-one.

Riis would call Baláz Tóth into action yet again, this time with a diving save down low to his left before Scott Twine shot over from the edge of the area.

17 minutes in, City were level after Pring’s cross deflected kindly for Riis, who, after calmly controlling the ball on his thigh, volleyed the ball into the far corner from inside the area.

Eyeing a second goal, Morsy’s smart pass to Riis saw the forward take on two Rovers defenders before squaring the ball for Sykes, who couldn’t keep his strike down.

With the momentum in the Robins’ favour, Horvat showed his range, coming agonisingly close to putting his side ahead after hitting the post from distance.

Just after the half-hour mark, the visitors were in front through Twine, netting his ninth of the season, meeting Riis’s cutback with a sublime volley into the top corner.

After the break, the hosts squandered an opportunity to level the game when Mathias Jørgensen met Ryan Alebiosu’s cross, heading wide of City’s goal.

Morishita tried his luck from distance but couldn’t beat Vítek before George Tanner made a firm tackle to deny Andri Gudjohnsen an almost certain goalscoring opportunity at close range.

Tóth made another top save in the 75th minute, keeping out Horvat’s free kick, which looked destined for the top corner.

City produced another superb piece of defending, firstly Vítek denying Dion De Neve from point blank range, before Sykes threw himself at Kristi Montgomery’s effort to maintain their lead.

Vítek made another critical save at the death to deny Moussa Baradji from close range to ensure City claimed maximum points after a gritty and hard-fought performance.
