David Moyes and Everton will have the right targets lined up for a successful season, and they might already have one step ahead on a major signing.

The Toffees are gearing up for an exciting summer under Moyes and The Friedkin Group.

It’s time for the owners to put their words into action after The Friedkins promised Moyes a healthy summer budget.

This could see an entire overhaul of the current squad as Everton’s current form suggest problems still need to be fixed.

They’ve got their manager, the right ownership and now, they have got a big step ahead to land their priority signing.

It’s been made clear that Liam Delap is the main transfer target for Everton this window.

With Moyes wanting to correct Everton’s troubles in front of goal, Delap seems to be the perfect candidate after a brilliant debut season in the Premier League.

Delap’s Premier League statistics Games played 34 Goals 12 Assists 2 Duels won 152 xG on target (xGOT) 10.8

Everton are prioritising a new striker and Delap ticks all the boxes for what Moyes needs, and with a £30m clause in his Ipswich Town contract, it’s a no brainer.

However, it won’t be plain sailing as Man United are challenging Everton for Delap, but a new claim has risen to the surface which might suggest Everton are winning the race.

Former Everton player Michael Ball spoke to the Liverpool Echo and claimed that fellow Ipswich teammate and former Toffees star Ben Godfrey could be telling Delap all about Everton.

“If you know your future is going to be elsewhere, you’re going to be talking to everybody you know about certain clubs, whether it’s the managers, the coaches and the teammates you played with,” Ball said.

“I’m sure Ben will have told him a lot of stuff regarding what Everton Football Club is all about, but he’s actually witnessed it now and seen what Goodison is all about.”

Delap’s Everton audition was a raging success

There might be question marks in Everton going for an already relegated player, but Delap has contributed to 40% of Ipswich’s goals this season, showing why he needs to remain in the top flight.

But even more to the matter is that Delap impressed Everton fans, which came as no surprise.

He’s a unique striker but exactly what Moyes needs, as the Scotsman will love his work rate and attitude on the ball, but most importantly his physicality, which is what Everton strikers are built on, following the success of Romelu Lukaku and Duncan Ferguson.

Godfrey now might be able to hand Everton a big boost in this deal, as despite the defender leaving the club in the summer, Godfrey still loves Everton.

Delap might have liked the Goodison Park atmosphere and may want a bit more where that came from at the Bramley-Moore Dock.
