Becoming a pie taster is the dream job for many. In celebration of their new pie menu, Stables Tavern called out for official tasters for one-night-only, and oh what a night it was.
Located in the city-centre, the small pub has that rustic, old-school charm that feels fitting for tucking into a British staple and a perfectly poured pint.
A successful tasting

On 18th February, the lucky lot selected to be pie tasters had the chance to sample three pies from the menu, all served on a stunning wooden platter.
But no pie is complete without a good side of mash, greens and gravy. Each person received a feedback form and pen, judging each item on structure, flavour, appearance and more. Only one pie could be crowned the winner, but which would it be?
A variety of flavours on offer
After a successful evening, the new menu officially launched. And there’s plenty of flavours to choose from. Go bold and rich with beef and barley, or enjoy delicious veg of the season with root and lentil pie. The new menu features:
- Beef & barley – rich Guinness gravy, root vegetables, beef jus, and woody herbs
- Chicken & leek – creamed onions, nutmeg, and lovage
- Pork & apple – braised shoulder, Cornish Orchards Gold Cider and wholegrain mustard
- Root & lentil (Ve) – earthy vegetables, forest mushrooms, and fresh marjoram
There’s a great selection of local beers too. It’s independent, dog-friendly and just a proper British pub. The pies just top it all off! What more could you ask for.
The new pie menu is available at Stables Tavern now.
