The French Capital is set to hold an open air viewing of the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The City of Paris has announced that it is holding an open air viewing of the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 which is being held in Basel, Switzerland. Eurovision will take over the Place de la Bastille, with hundreds of fans expected to watch the Grand Final together.

This is the first time that Paris is known to have held an public broadcast of the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final. Expectation is high in France for another strong result in the contest, with Louane among the favourites to win.

France will be represented this year by Louane and her song “Maman”. As a Big Five member, France is automatically qualified for the Grand Final of May 17. Before the final, France will also perform during the second semi-final of May 15 as the country is due to vote during that semi-final.

France was one of seven countries to participate in the first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. Since then they have participated in every contest aside from 1974 and 1982. Their withdrawal in 1974 was caused by the death of President Georges Pompidou, while 1982’s withdrawal was a result of TF1 declining to enter the contest. France has won the contest on five occasions, the most recent being in 1977 when Marie Myriam performed “L’oiseau et l’enfant”. France’s best result of the 21st century came in 2021 when Barbara Pravi finished second in Rotterdam.
