Birmingham Botanical Gardens says it has enjoyed ‘record-breaking sales’ over the Bank Holiday weekend after introducing new food and drink options.

The 15-acre gardens in Edgbaston said that it saw ‘incredibly high demand’ for entry on Sunday, May 4, selling out of tickets for entry.

Medicine, a beloved bakery with venues across the region including on New Street and in the Mailbox, opened its new Birmingham Botanical Gardens branch for the first time over the weekend, serving its signature bakes and coffee in the Grade II-listed landscape.

Edgbaston pizzeria Smoke and Ash were also serving drinks and pizza the gardens this weekend as part of their ongoing pop-up which will run until Sunday, June 1.

The new additions to the gardens encouraged a high number of visitors to the 193-year-old attraction, which it says was a ‘record-breaking’ feat.

Now visitors who want to see what’s so special about the new additions are encouraged to book their entry in advance to avoid disappointment.

Addressing its followers online, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens wrote: “After record breaking sales, all our entry tickets for today are now sold.

“Thank you to all our visitors that have come and supported us, Smoke and Ash and Medicine Bakery for the launch weekend.

“We advise anyone looking to visit the gardens to book your ticket in advance to secure your spot. Members need to book to secure entry too.”

The Victorian Glasshouses at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens are currently undergoing restoration works to preserve them for years to come.

This means that the beloved Butterfly House won’t be open to visitors this year while the space is used to temporarily care for the plants that are usually homed in the glasshouses.

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens are currently open from 10am until 5pm, Monday to Sunday, for the spring season. That continues until May 23.

From May 24, summer opening hours will be 10am until 6pm until September 7 when it returns to a 5pm closing time for the autumn.

During the winter season, the gardens open at 11am and close at 4pm.
