A ‘thriving’ nursery in Shawlands has been sold after being run by the same owners for 35 years.

Poppins Kindergarten is an established children’s day nursery situated on Queens Drive in the Southside area, and provides childcare for up to 47 children.

Jennifer Stewart and founding partner Elaine have run Poppins since 1990 and sold it as they prepare to retire.

They said: “After thirty-five years of devotion and dedication to Poppins, we have felt the time has come to take a step back and look to the possibility of retirement.”

Under their watch, Poppins Kindergarten has regularly received ‘Very Good’ to ‘Excellent’ grades with the Care Inspectorate.

Jennifer and Elaine added: “We are delighted to pass over a nursery that is thriving in all aspects, and we trust it will continue to do so under the new ownership.

“At this time, we would like to thank all our parents and children across our thirty-five years of service, as well as Glasgow City Council and their early years department, for their continued support and overwhelming best wishes for our future.

Following a confidential sales process with Christie & Co, Saqib and Amir Sadiq of SADCO Nursery Group Ltd have purchased it.

This is the pair’s third setting, alongside one in Lochgelly and one in Glenrothes.

Saqib and Amir Sadiq, new owners of Poppins Kindergarten, said: “We are delighted to have acquired our third setting, and first one in Glasgow!

“We have plans for substantial improvement by the end of this year and truly believe we will be transforming and modernising this setting to benchmark standards.

“As existing operators, we will quickly be able to introduce our infrastructure. All three of our settings will collaborate to ensure we provide the best possible childcare service.”

Poppins Kindergarten was sold for an undisclosed price.
