A HOSPITAL has reportedly been locked down as highly contagious virus causes chaos.
Belford Hospital in Fort William has been hit by several cases of Norovirus.
It’s understood that health chiefs have restricted patient visits and are only allowing essential loved ones onto the wards.
An NHS Highland spokesperson said: “We have had to close both wards in Belford Hospital to new admissions due to Norovirus.
“Restricted visiting is also in place but please contact staff on the ward if you feel your visit is necessary and they will be able to advise.”
Norovirus is also known as the winter stomach bug that causes vomiting and diarrhoea.

Elsewhere bosses at a crisis-hit superhospital are being probed over fraud allegations, we can reveal.
Internal NHS investigators are leading the “criminal” inquiry at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
They’ve removed computers and electronic devices used by senior managers at the site’s corporate estate and facilities department.
They are responsible for “building maintenance, including complex electrical, engineering systems and water systems in large healthcare premises,” according to health board NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s website.
But it emerged last night the case isn’t linked to an ongoing public inquiry into the sprawling campus.
A source told The Scottish Sun: “The computers were taken away from corporate estates last Friday.

The QEUH is at the centre of a public inquiry over infection risks from its water system plus a corporate homicide probe into the deaths of Milly Main, 10, and three others
NHS Counter Fraud Services chief Gordon Young said: “We are leading this investigation with Police Scotland assistance.
“We can confirm it is not connected to the hospital water supply or public inquiry.
