Suspected robbers armed with machetes and a hammer were captured on CCTV
The thieves smashed their way into the store
Shocking footage captures a brave member of the public armed with a broom confronting robbers brandishing enormous machetes. CCTV from Bilezzik, a gold-plated jewellery retailer on Green Lanes in North London, shows one member of the armed gang riding a moped straight into the premises.
A second thief wearing a motorcycle helmet enters behind them carrying a hammer, shattering the display cabinets.
At the same time, as bystanders start gathering near the shopfront and somebody can be heard shouting, another person in a motorcycle helmet is spotted pacing outside the jewellers, swinging a large machete through the air. The footage captures him chasing and lunging at a bystander, before another man grabs a broom and confronts the blade-wielding assailant.

The machete-carrier strikes at bottles of water and yells at the broom-armed man, who is shown backing away in the other direction. However, the man with the broom persists and once more challenges the knifeman in the street.
Internal CCTV shows a female member of staff guiding a customer to safety. The staff member suggested she suspected the thieves were unaware that the jewellery was primarily silver with gold-plating over it.

The woman said: “I think soon they will be caught. Our jewellery is gold-plated, but I guess [the robbers] didn’t realise that.”
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police stated: “Police were called at 10.04am on Tuesday, February 24, following reports of an armed robbery at a shop on Green Lanes, Islington.
