With spring finally coming in hot, our minds have switched to beer gardens, festivals and basically anything we can do outside. That includes the annual Manchester Flower Festival, kicking off the start of summer as the city comes alive with stunning floral displays, green installations and free events, alongside outdoor dining and entertainment.

This year’s theme spotlights ‘Green Manchester‘, celebrating the city’s green spaces and future developments, including the Castlefield Viaduct extension, Piccadilly Gardens redevelopment and Cyan Lines – a project to connect 100 miles of nature across the city.

The 2025 festival transformed the city into a global botanical gallery over last year’s late May Bank Holiday weekend. Spanning from Exchange Square to King Street, the event featured nine massive installations that bridged local heritage with international culture.

Highlights included the Gateway to Osaka at Manchester Arndale and the Markets of Marrakech on New Cathedral Street. Other displays, like Mumbai Dreams and La Romance in Paris, brought the spirit of the Holi Festival and French elegance directly to the rainy city’s streets.

Beyond the visuals, the festival was a sensory experience driven by the Cocktail Trail. Venues like The Cut & Craft hosted alfresco Champagne bars, while restaurants like Fazenda and Grand Pacific crafted floral-infused spirits.

The event also leaned heavily into Manchester’s identity; the MCR LIVE ’25 installation featured a town hall-inspired planter that nodded to the summer’s Oasis reunion, while the brand-new Manchester Bee Parade saw families costumed as pollinators performing ‘The Waggledance’ through the festival zone.

The 2025 edition successfully blended environmental discovery with urban life. Visitors engaged in Ikebana workshops in the Floral Marquee, enjoyed vegan wellness treatments, and explored the city’s hidden green veins through guided nature tours. It was a weekend that proved Manchester’s ‘Original Modern’ spirit is just as much about blooming gardens as it is about industrial innovation.
