Phil Neumann is a doubt for his farewell game at Hannover 96’s home stadium after injuring his ankle in a training session on Tuesday.

Neumann, 27, is due to play his final game at Niedersachsenstadion against Fürth on Sunday afternoon before completing his free transfer to Birmingham City on July 1.

Hannover have two games to play of their Bundesliga II season and are now out of the promotion race in eighth place. After they play Fürth, Hannover will travel to Berlin to play Hertha on the final day.

Neumann’s participation this weekend is in jeopardy after a training ground challenge left him needing medical treatment.

The defender came off worse in a challenge with Jannik Rochelt and his ankle was strapped on the field before he was taken backstage to be examined. German newspaper BILD says Neumann only twisted his ankle and isn’t seriously injured.

But all eyes will be peeled to see whether Neumann features for Hannover on the weekend.

Neumann has only missed eight games in three years at Hannover and recently played through the pain to maintain his almost ever-present record in his final season.

He has played 31 of their 32 Bundesliga II matches this season and has contributed to the league’s best defensive record.
