Donald Trump, the US President, has said he was surprised by Vladimir Zelensky’s reluctance to strike a deal to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
On Saturday, March 14, Trump told NBC in an interview that Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, is ready for an agreement and that Zelensky has been asked to enter negotiations.
The US President added that reaching a deal with Zelensky is “far more difficult.”
Trump’s remarks come as the war in Ukraine enters its fourth year, with diplomatic efforts to end the conflict continuing to fail.
In recent months, negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, mediated by Western countries and international organizations, have been launched several times, but major disagreements over territorial sovereignty, security, and military guarantees have prevented any agreements from being reached.
