Warmer weather may make an appearance within days, while in a few more weeks it ‘should feel quite pleasant’

BBC Wales weatherman Derek Brockway has shared good news that warm weather could arrive from Spain in days. Posting on X on Sunday, March 15, he wrote: “Temperatures could reach 18°C in places next Wednesday with warm air moving up from Spain!”
The possibility of warmer weather will come as a relief to many in Wales after the beginning of 2026 was met with weeks of consistent rain. If forecasters such as Derek are correct, the country might see temperatures hit double digits and sunny spells during the first week of spring.
The mercury will begin rise as soon as Monday, March 16, with mild highs of 11°C. – although it may be grey and drizzly for many. Wednesday is expected to bring the warmest weather with highs of 18°C. Llandovery, while other areas will still see warmer temperatures of 17 °C including Cardiff, Swansea, Abergavenny and Lampeter. Further north in Wrexham, Flint and Caernarfon temperatures will also be in the teens at 16 °C at 3pm.
The Met Office website states for Monday in Wales: “A dry start for most. Cloud soon thickening with showery rain arriving, this heaviest and most persistent in the northwest. Freshening southwesterly winds and turning windy in the northwest. Maximum temperature 11°C.”
The outlook in Wales from Tuesday to Thursday states: “Breezy and mainly cloudy on Tuesday with perhaps some light rain in the west. Warmer thereafter and often sunny but some cloud likely at times. Chilly nights with fog patches.”
Looking at the UK long range forecast conditions are likely to be “settled” and “close to or a little warmer than average”. For the period from March 20 until March 29, the Met Office predicts: “Under the influence of high pressure it will be a settled start to this period, with most places predominantly dry.
“Temperatures will be close to or a little above average, although for parts of the south it will feel cooler than earlier in the week with a brisk easterly wind starting to develop.
“Overall though is spells of spring sunshine it should feel quite pleasant. How long the settled conditions last is less certain with some signals that showers / rain could return later in the period, most likely to the south.”
