Train services between Swindon and Bristol have returned to schedule following an incident in which a person was reportedly struck by a train in Wiltshire.
The incident occurred between 2pm and 2.30pm on Saturday, March 14 near Royal Wootton Bassett.
Disruption to railway services between Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads was seen immediately, with a spokesperson for GWR issuing an advisory: “A person has been struck by a train, leading to all lines being blocked. It is necessary to bring all trains in the affected area to an immediate stop.”
The disruption persisted for hours, with numerous trains cancelled across the afternoon and services affected into the evening. As of Sunday morning (March 15), a normal service between the stations had resumed.
Following the incident road closure was put in place on the A3102 for hours while 999 crews were on the scene, with vehicles including a Tesco delivery lorry stuck on one side of the closure.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service said crews from Royal Wootton Bassett and Westlea were called to the road Royal Wootton Bassett at 2.24pm to assist with a multi-agency incident.
The added: “No action was carried out by firefighters – our stop was in at 3.19pm and incident handed over to the police.”
British Transport Police and the South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust have been approached for comment.
