Travellers set up camp on land opposite the MG car site in Birmingham.

Residents described seeing “loads of police” on Lowhill Lane, in the Longbridge area, yesterday, Tuesday, May 6.

West Midlands Police said a group of travellers had set up an unauthorised encampment.

Police said the group were moved on after officers serviced a notice on them.

A police spokesman told BirminghamLive: “We were called to Lowhill Lane just after 10am yesterday (Tues) after a group of travellers set up an unauthorised encampment.

“The group left after we served a notice on them.”

Under law, a criminal offence is triggered once a Section 60C notice is served on a group of travellers over an unauthorised or roadside camp.

It could lead to a criminal offence which is punishable by six months in prison, and/or a £2,500 fine and/or the impounding and confiscation of vehicles.
