A number of city schools are planing to close to allow pupils and staff to celebrate Eid al-Fitr

Some Birmingham schools are planning to close this week to allow pupils to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
Tens of thousands of Muslims have been observing Ramadan and the holy month is predicted is to come to an end on Friday, March 20.
Some schools have announced they will be closing on Thursday and/or Friday so pupils and staff can mark Eid al-Fitr.

Bordesley Green Girls’ and Sixth Form College said: “All students are expected in school on Thursday, March 19.
“Friday 20th March will be an authorised absence for students celebrating Eid.”

Ark Boutlon Academy in Small Heath, wrote : “As shared earlier in the week, a change has been made to the Academy calendar and school is now closed to pupils on Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20.
“School will be open as usual on Monday, March 23.”
Waverley Education Foundation posted: “As many of our staff will be celebrating Eid ul-Fitr next week, and we cannot be certain of the day Eid will fall, Waverley School and Waverley Studio College will be closed to students on Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, 2026.”
Hodge Hill College said pupils celebrating Eid were entitled to request a day’s leave for religious observance.
Other Birmingham schools already confirmed to be shut on Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, are:
- Al-Furqan Primary School in Reddings Lane in Tyseley;
- The Olive School, also in Reddings Lane in Tyseley;
- Starbank School in Hob Moor Road in Bordesley Green;
- Eden Boys School in Wellhead Lane in Perry Barr;
- Eden Girls School in Hob Moor Road in Bordesley Green.
Also closing on Friday, March 20 is:
- Heartlands Academy in Great Francis Street in Nechells
