Four towns in south Wales are among the most affordable places for families to live in Britain, according to Zoopla.

The property experts have come up with a list of the most popular affordable towns for families in Great Britain, based on new research.

The research looked at:

  • The average price of a 3-bed home in the area

  • Estimated earnings required (two full-time earners)

  • Estimated monthly mortgage payment (20% deposit)

  • Q1 2025 price-to-earnings ratio

All of the towns in the top ten were located in Scotland and Wales, apart from Dartford and Swanley in the South East.

The most affordable places for families to live in Britain, according to Zoopla, are:

  1. Glenrothes

  2. Llanelli

  3. Neath

  4. Port Talbot

  5. Wishaw

  6. Maesteg

  7. Dartford

  8. Leven

  9. Larkhall

  10. Swanley

The four South Wales towns among UK’s most affordable for families

Llanelli, Neath, Port Talbot and Maesteg were all named among the most affordable places for families to live in the UK by Zoopla.

Here’s how each fared in Zoopla’s research:

Llanelli (2nd)

  • Average price of a 3-bed home: £170,600

  • Estimated earnings required: £75,800

  • Estimated monthly mortgage payment: £680

  • Price-to-earnings ratio: 2.3

Neath (3rd)

  • Average price of a 3-bed home: £176,600

  • Estimated earnings required: £74,800

  • Estimated monthly mortgage payment: £700

  • Price-to-earnings ratio: 2.4

Port Talbot (4th)

  • Average price of a 3-bed home: £160,300

  • Estimated earnings required: £74,800

  • Estimated monthly mortgage payment: £640

  • Price-to-earnings ratio: 2.1

Maesteg (6th)

  • Average price of a 3-bed home: £142,200

  • Estimated earnings required: £71,400

  • Estimated monthly mortgage payment: £560

  • Price-to-earnings ratio: 2.0
