If you take a very short flight from Liverpool, you’ll find a small yet enchanting island that boasts what’s been dubbed the “best beach in the world”. Nestled between Great Britain and Ireland in the Irish Sea, the Isle of Man may be relatively compact at around 30 miles long and 10 miles wide, but it packs a punch with its diverse landscapes.
From rolling hills and rugged cliffs to sandy beaches, the island offers a variety of stunning vistas. The coastline alone stretches an impressive 99 miles, providing plenty of picturesque spots for visitors to explore.
Douglas, the capital city, is home to one of the most frequented beaches, offering a broad expanse of golden sand and a host of amenities including watersports facilities, cafes, and restaurants. Venturing further, you’ll discover Port Erin Beach nestled within a quaint seaside village.

With a stellar rating of 4.8 out of five on Google, some reviewers have even hailed it the “best beach in the world”. Port Erin also hosts Scoops, an ice cream parlour serving award-winning Davison’s Ice Cream, and La Gusto Pizza, known for their hand-stretched Italian pizzas and calzones.
Beyond its array of beautiful beaches, the Isle of Man is also home to several waterfalls. Dhoon Glen Waterfall, located on the island’s east coast, is a popular natural attraction featuring multiple tiers cascading down a lush glen.
The Isle of Man’s enchanting beauty is perfectly embodied by the Fairy Bridge, nestled on the A5 between Ballasalla and Newtown. As per local Manx folklore, this bridge serves as a dwelling for the island’s fairies, and it’s deemed unlucky not to extend them a friendly greeting.
The island also boasts other attractions such as the Laxey Wheel, the world’s largest operational waterwheel, and the Snaefell Mountain Railway, which transports visitors to the summit of Snaefell, the highest point on the Isle of Man.
However, the Isle of Man is perhaps best known for its thrilling TT motorcycle races, drawing in thousands of spectators from across the globe. The TT is a series of motorcycle races, with the Senior TT being the pinnacle of the event.
The Senior TT, the concluding race of the event, spans an impressive 226.38 miles along the demanding Snaefell Mountain Course. With roots tracing back to the inaugural Isle of Man TT in 1907, it has given rise to legendary moments etched into motorcycling history.
Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) bosses have this week shone a spotlight on the Isle of Man, letting would-be travellers know they can fly there in less than half an hour. A post from the airport’s X account reads: “Want to be in a new destination in less than 30 minutes?
“Fly from Liverpool to the Isle of Man and do just that! Loganair operate up to 12 weekly flights to the island from Liverpool, whilst easyJet have up to daily services – it really is the quickest way from Merseyside to the IOM!”
