An Edinburgh family have been left without power for hours as Scottish Power carry out emergency repairs. The East Craigs local stays at home with his partner, three-year-old and 10-week-old.

The power in his home was shut off at around 4.30pm as was the case for residents in EH12 8XH, EH12 8XL and EH12 8YJ. Marc claims he was given no prior warning of this happening and he was informed by Scottish Power that his electricity may not return until 9pm on Friday March 20.

The reason behind the blackout was explained to him by local workmen who said he should have received a text. But Marc claimed he did not receive any correspondence from Scottish Power.

He said: “I am absolutely fuming about not being told. A letter through the door would have done a better job than expecting all the numbers on their system to be up to date,

“I have a three-year-old and a ten-week-old at home. The power went out at 4.30pm and we have been told it might not come back on again until 9pm.

“We can’t boil a kettle to make bottles for the baby. Thankfully we have family close by that can help out.

“I’ve had to spend a fortune on a takeaway as we couldn’t cook dinner. We just did a full shop and that might go spoiled.

“All they have offered us is a £40 food voucher and to update our phone details.”

Scottish Power stated on their website that an issue was reported to them at around 10.20am this morning. They said engineers are on site carry out emergency repairs at North Bughtlin Gate.

In a statement released online, they said: “We have to turn the power off in the EH12 postcode area of Edinburgh at 4.30pm so our engineers can safely carry out emergency repairs to faulty electrical equipment near North Bughtlin Gate . We aim to restore power by 9pm on Friday March 20.

“To protect your equipment, please switch off and unplug all electrical appliances, including your boiler. We will update this message if the information changes.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.”

Scottish Power have been approached for comment.
