HEAVEN KNOWS went close a couple of times last season, finishing runner-up on both outings over this course and distance, and she is taken to get off the mark. She was a beaten odds-on favourite when last seen at Wolverhampton in October, but she looked unsuited by the drop to five furlongs on that occasion and will benefit from stepping back up in trip here.

JESSIE LUC has enjoyed a productive time of things on the all-weather in recent months, and he registered his fifth win of the year at Southwell last month.

Jesse Luc was ridden patiently but made good headway over a furlong out and led inside the final 100 yards to score by half a length, running up to his best on Timeform’s figures. He’s a consistent and progressive sort who looks likely to give another good account after edging up only 2lb.

EMPRESS OF ALL has an eye-catching pedigree as she’s out of Group 1 winner Ambivalent and is a half-sister to three winners, including the very smart Teona, who also won at the top level when landing the Prix Vermeille in 2021.

It’s also notable that Empress of All holds an entry in the Irish 1000 Guineas, so she’s an interesting contender on her belated debut (she was withdrawn after refusing to enter the stalls at Ripon a couple of weeks ago).

LADY CHARTWELL was disappointing at Newmarket’s Craven meeting, but it’s possible that she was unsuited by the cut in the ground there, and she looks worth another chance back on the all-weather.

Lady Chartwell had shown much-improved form when making a successful handicap debut over this course and distance on her reappearance, keeping on well to beat a subsequent winner by a length and a quarter with the runner-up three and a quarter lengths clear of the third. Lady Chartwell looks fairly treated off 6 lb higher than for that victory, and the return to this surface can help her bounce back.

CARLTON was in superb form around the turn of the year and won all four starts over this course and distance. He followed that up with two good efforts in defeat in Flat handicaps at Southwell, but has disappointed twice since over hurdles.

He’s been given a bit of a break since his latest effort at the start of March, and it would be little surprise to see him bounce back to form back on the Flat at a venue where he clearly goes well.

OCEAN ODYSSEY was well backed at Southwell last week on his first start back with Gary & Josh Moore (he’d run a couple of times for Murty McGrath in between) and he rewarded that support with an emphatic victory.

Ocean Odyssey travelled smoothly before quickening six lengths clear, so he looks well treated under a 5lb penalty and should have the pace to cope with this drop in trip.
