Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl revealed he is in Germany for treatment on a lower-body injury that will sideline him for the remainder of the 2025-26 NHL regular season.
Draisaitl was seen visiting German soccer club Bayern Munich’s team facilities on Saturday and spoke about his injury timeline during a Sky Sports broadcast for the team’s game against Union Berlin.
“It will definitely be a few weeks,” Draisaitl told Sky Sports. “I hope we go far enough so I can help the team again.”
According to Sky Sport reporter Ben Heckner, Draisaitl will be treated by Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt, nicknamed “Healing Hans” after his work on athletes such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Usain Bolt and Kobe Bryant and celebrities such as Luciano Pavarotti and Bono.
Müller-Wohlfahrt was Bayern Munich’s team physician from 1977 to 2015, and then from 2017 to 2020. He was also the German national men’s soccer team’s physician from 1995 to 2018.
Last season, Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews visited Müller-Wohlfhart for treatment on an undisclosed injury and has frequented his services in the past. Former teammate Max Pacioretty also enlisted Müller-Wohlfhart’s services while recovering from an Achilles injury suffered as a member of the Carolina Hurricanes.
Draisaitl was injured in the first period of Sunday’s game against the Nashville Predators. The German forward scored 35 goals and 97 points in 65 games with the Oilers this year. Draisaitl is in the first year of an eight-year, $112 million contract carrying a $14 million cap hit through 2033.
The Oilers are currently second in the Pacific Division, 3 points behind the division-leading Anaheim Ducks.
