Lyndon Dykes intends to ‘come back flying’ as Birmingham City return to the Championship next season.
By his own admission the striker, a summer signing from Queen’s Park Rangers, has had a ‘tough’ first campaign at St Andrew’s @Knighthead Park having found it difficult to crack the starting XI.
His appearances were further limited by a calf injury which ended his Blues season in February, a knock from which is has mostly recovered.
Indeed the 29-year-old, who made just nine League One starts, is hoping to be back playing next month and to take part in Scotland’s friendlies against Iceland and Liechtenstein, increasing his total of 42 caps.
“I’m feeling good,” Dykes told BBC Scotland. “I’ve been on the pitch running this week.
“Hopefully I can get through a couple more weeks of rehab with the physios and the aim is to be involved in the June camp for Scotland.
“This whole season has been tough but I’m sure I’ll come out of it strong and get back to playing consistently and delivering the goods. Having these internationals coming up is good for me to get into that rhythm again and gives me something to look forward to.
“I’ve been looking at those games, then have a little break and come back flying for next season.”
The Scots face Iceland at home on June 6 then are away to Liechtenstein three days later.
He will then return for Blues’ pre-season, including the training camp in Portugal in mid-July and hope to provide more highlights like his spectacular FA Cup goal against Lincoln and his unforgettable headed winner in the Vertu Trophy semi-final victory over Bradford City.
