The lawmaker representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, Aderemi Oseni, has launched the Remi Asoludero Food Bank and Asoludero Market in Oyo State, an initiative aimed at providing sustainable food support for vulnerable residents while easing the burden of rising food prices.
Oseni, who also chairs the House Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), said the project is designed to ensure consistent access to food for widows, the elderly, orphans, and persons living with disabilities. At the same time, the subsidised market will make essential food items more affordable for struggling households.
The commissioning ceremony drew a diverse crowd, including persons with disabilities, religious leaders, community heads, and representatives of non-governmental organizations, all gathered to witness the unveiling of what many described as a timely intervention.
Speaking at the event, the lawmaker described the initiative as a deliberate move to shift from one-off assistance to a structured, long-term support system. He emphasised that the goal is to ensure that no member of the community goes to bed hungry, adding that sustainability remains central to the programme’s design.
Oseni noted that his commitment to humanitarian service predates his time in public office. Through the Remi Oseni Foundation, he said he has spent over 15 years supporting vulnerable groups through postgraduate scholarships, women empowerment programmes, medical bill assistance, and relief for widows and underserved populations.
He maintained that the food bank and market initiative is non-political, non-religious, and non-tribal, stressing that it is purely focused on service to humanity. According to him, beneficiaries will receive periodic food support based on their level of need, while those unable to cater for themselves due to physical challenges may benefit from extended or even lifetime assistance.
The lawmaker also aligned the initiative with the welfare-focused agenda of Bola Tinubu, expressing hope that broader economic improvements would complement such grassroots interventions. He urged programme coordinators to prioritise transparency, fairness, and accountability to ensure the initiative achieves its intended impact.
A beneficiary, Akinbola Omolola Kasarat, who spoke on behalf of others, described the project as both timely and impactful. She said many struggling families would benefit from the free food distribution and subsidised market, noting that the initiative would ease hardship and restore hope. She also called on other well-meaning individuals to replicate similar efforts in their communities.
