OVER 200 Orange and Loyalist walks are scheduled to take place across Scotland as this year’s marching season fast approaches.

More than 45,000 members of the Orange Order are set to take to Scottish streets this summer.

Glasgow will host 88 separate Orange or Loyalist walks throughout the entire marching season this year.

The first major event will take place next Saturday, May 17, with around 2,500 marchers walking through Glasgow city centre from Wishart Street.

The busiest day is expected to be July 5, when approximately 30,365 marchers will take to Scottish streets, with the earliest parade starting at 7:10am in Coatbridge.

A total of 93 separate parades are planned for that day.

To accommodate the parades, 1,185 unique roads will be temporarily closed. Check below to see if your area will be affected.

The mammoth figure is mostly made up of marches across Glasgow, and towns in North and South Lanarkshire.

But there is another major event that has been registered for the quiet town of Kilbirnie, North Ayrshire.

The County Grand Orange Lodge of Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and Argyll has submitted a notice to the council to hold a public procession on Saturday, June 28.

Between 2,500 and 3,000 walkers are expected to attend, while Kilbirnie only has a population of around 7,200.

A complete list of all 221 Orange and Loyalist events taking place until August, including their locations, dates, times, and estimated attendance for each march, is available below.

Orange Order chiefs blast ‘anti-Protestant hatred’ after Glasgow’s women-only march ‘targeted with online abuse’

THE Orange Order has demanded an “immediate meeting” with the First Minister after female members were allegedly targeted by online trolls.

The organisation’s ladies are said to have suffered “emotional distress” and “trauma” over “deeply offensive” comments which followed a recent march.

Hundreds of women in colourful frocks and fancy hats had filled the streets of Glasgow for the first large walk of the year on April 27.

But the organisation said some of them were later targeted on the internet “for expressing their faith and culture”.

The developments have pushed Andrew Murray – the Most Worthy Grand Master – to write to the First Minister for help.

In a statement, the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland hit out at the “rise of anti-Protestant hatred across our country” and called for action.

He gave a wide-ranging interview to Rangers fans’ Youtube channel The Gers TV where he also said over a thousand parades a year were good for the Scottish economy.

His comments come as marching season across Scotland ramps up towards the climax on the Twelfth of July.

With 45,000 Orangemen expected to parade this year, Mr Walters wants that figure to approach 100,000 by 2028.

When asked about his hopes for the next ‘two to three years’, he replied: “I’d love to see our membership double, there’s no reason why it can’t.”
