Wetherspoon is set to open two new pubs in Spanish airports with the first opening later this year, following the success of its new Alicante location

JD Wetherspoon has revealed plans to launch two new pubs at a Spanish holiday hotspot frequented by British travellers.
The pub chain made its European debut at Alicante Airport on February 9, serving an eclectic mix of Spanish and British dishes alongside pre-departure beverages. Patrons can tuck into traditional favourites including a full English breakfast, bacon sandwich or burger, while those seeking a final taste of Spain before departure can opt for tortilla or garlic prawns.
The company has now turned its attention to Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, confirming two new airside venues are in the pipeline. With approximately 18 million Britons travelling to Spain annually, Barcelona remains a firm favourite for city breaks and beach holidays.
The first venue will occupy Terminal 1, with doors expected to open in September. A second pub is scheduled to launch around January 2027 in Terminal 2.
Operating hours will run from 5am until 11pm daily throughout the week, catering to passengers catching flights at unsociable times, with hot meals available until one hour before closing, reports the Express.

Similar to Alicante, the menu will feature beloved Wetherspoons staples from Britain including full English breakfasts, burgers and pizzas, complemented by regional specialities.
The company has also disclosed that both venues will feature the signature Wetherspoons part-carpeted interior design and stock a range of traditional ales amongst their beverage selection.
The identities of both establishments remain confidential, though Wetherspoons has revealed the venues will collectively span more than 5,700 square metres. When they launch, the pubs will accommodate nearly 600 customers.
In a statement, Wetherspoon founder and chairman Tim Martin said: “We are delighted to have secured two fantastic sites at Barcelona airport.
“In the short time since opening our pub at Alicante airport has proven popular with travellers and we are confident we can replicate that at our two new pubs in Barcelona. We aim to open a number of pubs overseas in the coming months and years, including those at airports.”

The Barcelona outlets will be run by Ibersol Group, a major franchised brand operator across Spanish and Portuguese transport hubs.
The company oversees brands including Pizza Hut, KFC, Taco Bell and Pret A Manger throughout numerous Spanish airports and railway stations.
Tim Martin previously said: “We are delighted to have opened in Spain. We believe the pub will be popular with a wide range of customers travelling home from Alicante Airport, including those travelling home to the UK and those using the terminal for trips to England and beyond.”
