The United States of America and the Republic of Tunisia Celebrate the Commissioning of Innovative U.S. Technological Solutions within the Electricity Distribution Network in Moknine

Governor of Sousse, Mr. Sofiene Tanfouri, His Excellency Mr. Bill Bazzi, Ambassador of the United States of America to Tunisia, and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas, Mr. Faycel Tarifa, chaired the ceremony of the official commissioning of U.S. tech solutions valued at 5 million dinars, part of a 15-million dinar, U.S. government-funded Smart Grid pilot project which expands trade and opens economic opportunities for both the United States and Tunisia.
This initiative highlights the strength and depth of the strategic collaboration between Tunisia and the United States of America. It also underscores the key role of U.S. tech innovation in enhancing the resilience of critical infrastructure.
Implemented over the period 2020–2026, the project included studies, skills transfer, and professional development initiatives, and the deployment of state-of-the-art-U.S. technology solutions, such as Fault Location, Isolation, and Service Restoration (FLISR), which ensure rapid and optimal service restoration.
This system has been deployed within the electricity distribution network in the Moknine region, as part of a technological partnership between STEG and its American partners, E3-International, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), and G&W Electric. It is supported by a pLTE communication infrastructure provided by Nokia, ensuring real-time monitoring and optimized network operations management.
Ambassador Bazzi said, “This milestone reflects the impact of American technology as we partner with Tunisia to modernize critical infrastructure, foster mutual economic growth, and create new business opportunities for U.S. companies in Tunisian markets.”
Mr. Faycel Tarifa noted that “This project is fully aligned with STEG’s strategic vision to modernize the national electricity network and support Tunisia’s energy transition through the deployment of Smart Grid technologies.”
On this occasion, STEG reaffirms its commitment to continuing its efforts to modernize the national electricity network and to promote the integration of advanced technological solutions, with a view to improving service quality, optimizing operational performance, and supporting Tunisia’s energy efficiency.
