A main road in Wythenshawe was closed by emergency services on Thursday (May 8) after a crash between a motorbike and a car.

Police, paramedics and fire crews raced to Southmoor Road, near to the Roundthorn Metrolink stop, at around 5.20pm. The route was closed in both directions from the junction with Ledson Road amid the response

Firefighters cleared debris and oil from the road as one person was given medical treatment at the scene by paramedics.

Further details about the nature of the collision haven not yet been confirmed. Greater Manchester Police have been approached for a statement.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 5:20pm today (Thursday, 8th May), firefighters were called to the scene of a crash at the junction of Southmoor Road and Ledson Road in Wythenshawe.

“One fire engine from Wythenshawe fire station quickly arrived at the scene, which involved a collision between a motorbike and a car.

“Firefighters worked to clear debris and oil from the road, while one casualty was treated at the scene by colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS). Crews were at the scene for around half an hour.”
