The first Darksiders game has been freely available to play on PS5 via backwards compatibility since the console came out, via the original PS4 version of the Warmastered Edition. Darksiders 2 and Darksiders 3 can also be played on PS5 using the same feature, and we know Darksiders 4 is now in active development.
THQ Nordic actually pulled a similar stunt for Darksiders 2 in 2024, when the remastered Deathinitive Edition of the sequel got a PS5 version. A free PS4 to PS5 upgrade was offered in that situation, so you’d like to think it’ll be the same for the Warmastered Edition. It’s $29.99 if you don’t already own the game.
All the way back in 2016, we gave the PS4 version of Darksiders: Warmastered Edition an 8/10 rating, calling it a “fantasy world that retains its wonder” at the time. Now, 10 years later, the game is back with a modern version… for some reason.
