A road closure has been put in place after a gas ’emergency’ which saw a leak ‘spread to nearby properties’. Part of Green Lane and Liverpool Road in the Eccles area was closed on Wednesday evening (April 1) amid the incident.
The Eccles Labour group said there had been a ‘gas emergency’ at the junction of the two roads, with a ‘severe’ leak requiring emergency repairs throughout the night.
“The leak has entered nearby properties and has been traced to a 24‑inch gas main. Due to the seriousness of the situation, urgent emergency repair works are required,” a statement from local councillors added.

Green Lane is operating in one direction, with no access onto Liverpool Road. Further details are still expected including timeframes for the works to take place and full details of the diversion routes being put in place. No evacuations have taken place.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please be aware that arrangements may change at short notice due to the nature of this emergency. Please take care and allow extra time for your journeys,” a statement added.
Cadent were contacted by the Manchester Evening News, and said: “Cadent are currently carrying out emergency repair works on our network.
“Due to the high volume of traffic on this road during the day, the decision was made to undertake the work during the evening to minimise disruption and ensure the safety of both the public and our engineers.
“Our teams are working to complete the repair as quickly and as safely as possible. We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding while this essential work is carried out”
