Disbelief as Birmingham council workers paint double-yellow lines around parked car

A councillor was left scratching her head after workers painted double yellow lines around a parked car.

Fresh lines were painted at the junction of Ridgacre Road and White Road in Quinton on Tuesday, March 31.

But the parked Ford Focus posed a problem and forced workers to leave a car-sized gap.

Councillor Sam Forsyth spotted the bizarre scene on Wednesday (April 1) and urged the workers to ‘come back and finish the job’.

Birmingham City Council said its contractors were hampered by parked cars and will return next week.

A spokesperson from the council said: “As part of the Environment and Transport Neighbourhood Fund, our contractor attended the junction at Ridgacre Road and White Road to paint double yellow lines.

“Unfortunately, the lining could not be completed due to parked cars.

“Our contractor aims to complete the lining next week.”

Councillor Forsyth said: “For some years, residents living on White Road & Ridgacre Road, Quinton have had to put up with inconsiderate & sometimes downright dangerous parking outside their homes & at the junction of the two roads”To help their concerns & ensure road safety, Cllr Rainbow & I petitioned BCC & campaigned for double yellow lines/parking restrictions.
